That’s exactly why we started The Social House by Josh & Cynthia, a new community initiative designed to bring people together through meaningful and memorable events in Vancouver.

From cozy painting workshops to themed food parties and hands-on creative sessions, The Social House is all about reimagining what it means to connect. Our gatherings are warm, welcoming, and designed for anyone who wants to slow down and share an experience, whether you come solo or with friends.

Why We Started The Social House

Vancouver is beautiful, but it can sometimes feel a little lonely, as we have personally felt in the past. We wanted to change that, one event at a time. Through The Social House, we’re building a space where people can find belonging through shared passions, creativity, and of course, good food.

Our events are designed to be interactive, not just observational — think painting while sipping tea, baking with friends you just met, or attending one of our signature Vancouver Cookbook Club gatherings, where everyone brings a dish from the same cookbook and swaps stories over home cooked food.

Why Our Ticket Prices Reflect More Than Just the Event

We know our event tickets may be priced a bit higher, and we want to be transparent about why. Each event is carefully curated with intention and thought (AKA hours of labour), from our DIY decor like our Paper Garden and custom event favours such as our pie-breaker activity, all of which are designed and handcrafted by Cynthia and me. Each tickets also help cover digital fees and event insurance to ensure every experience runs smoothly and safely.

Cynthia and I pour time and love into every detail because we truly believe that building community through events in Vancouver takes effort — and it’s worth it. Every ticket helps us create more thoughtful spaces where people can come together and feel connected in a city that often feels disconnected.

Beyond creating meaningful experiences and ending each event with a thoughtful take-home favour, a big part of what we do is supporting local cafés and small businesses. Most of our events include a drink ticket from the host venue — a small but intentional way to give back. It allows us to support the café not just through exposure and marketing, but also by directly purchasing their products.
