A Double Serving of Delicious: A Dual Cookbook Club Event with No Pressure Cookbook Club

Cookbook clubs unite! Our November Cookbook Club, hosted with No Pressure Cookbook Club, was a celebration of food and community together with Chef Vikram Vij and Chef Betty Hung.

Have you ever enjoyed Indian food for your main course and finished with a French dessert? It’s not your everyday combo, but somehow, it worked beautifully for our Vancouver Cookbook Club collaboration with Rebekah Ho from No Pressure Cookbook Club.

For our November gathering, we chose two incredible local cookbooks: My New Indian Kitchen by Vikram Vij and French Pastry 101 by Betty Hung. What made this event truly special was that both cookbook authors—who also happen to be award-winning chefs—joined us in person!

How It All Came Together

When we launched the Vancouver Cookbook Club earlier this year, our goal was simple: to bring people together through a shared love of food and community. Around the same time, we discovered that Rebekah had started her own group, the No Pressure Cookbook Club. It was exciting to see the cookbook club scene growing in Vancouver, and we knew a collaboration was bound to happen (both our cookbook clubs even got featured in Daily Hive!).

We first met up with Rebekah at Miion Café back in June to brainstorm ideas. We initially planned a summer event but decided to hold off until we could do something bigger. Then, one day in August, inspiration struck—I (Josh) texted Rebekah with a spontaneous idea: two cookbook clubs, two cookbooks, two authors. She was instantly on board, and the rest, as they say, is history.

An Evening to Remember

Hosted at FUNK Coffee Bar, our dual cookbook event welcomed over 50 enthusiastic food lovers. The space buzzed with lively conversations and the aroma of home-cooked dishes inspired by Vikram and Betty’s recipes. It was exactly the kind of warm, joyful energy that makes these gatherings so special.

Of course, no cookbook club night is complete without a few fun surprises. Our DIY photobooth was a hit, capturing new friendships formed. Butter and Botanicals wowed everyone with adorable custom sugar cookies shaped like chef’s coats, and our raffle prizes, featuring spices and aprons from Vij’s Restaurant and pastries from Beaucoup Bakery, brought even more excitement.

By the end of the night, guests left with full hearts (and full plates). What started as a simple idea became a vibrant celebration of creativity, connection, and community—proof that food really does bring people together in the most joyful ways.

We can’t wait to see what’s cooking (or baking) next at our next Vancouver Cookbook Club!
